Take a wind down moment

Make time for yourself over the festive season to ditch the stress and relax - whether you have 5, 15 or 30 minutes try out our Soul Space tried and tested solutions:

If you have 5 minutes:

Take a spicy tea break (Tea Pigs have a lovely Spiced Winter Red Tea) add it to hit frothy milk - what better way to warm you down to your toes on a cold, crispy morning?

Breathe Easy:

for a quick calming fix, place one hand on your tummy and the other on your chest, take a deep breath in through your nose, ensuring your diaphragm inflates with enough air to create a stretch in your lungs. Breathe out slowly....Breathe in and count to 4, breathe out to the count of 6.

If you have 15 minutes:

Have a Mindful Shower

• Feel the sensation, temperature, pressure of the water on your skin. Hear the sound as it falls and sprays.

• Observing the droplets splashing on your body, take time to feel your skins texture and colour.

• Deeply inhale the scent of the shower gel as you wash; feel the lather.  Notice how you relax under the heat of the water. Keep focused and witness all of these sensations in the present moment.

if you have 30 minutes:

Wrap up warm and take yourself out on a brisk walk to clear your mind, try some of the mindfulness tips outdoors too...feeling the air on your skin, your breath, each step as you lift your feet to walk.

Wind down for bedtime - switch off all technology, have a hot non caffeinated drink, a mix a few drops of lavender essential oil into your body cream, give your lovely legs a massage, then prop your legs up against the wall for some amazing relaxation time! The legs up the wall yoga pose is a favourite in our yin yoga classes at Soul Space :-)

5 Tips to Be More Thankful

For a spiritual Thanksgiving this year, no matter where you are in life, with whom you are celebrating and how you are feeling, here are five super simple ways to help you find gratitude in your heart and keep it all year long.

1. Put your life in perspective.

If you’ve been pessimistic, worried, or doubtful for a long time – and perhaps for very real reasons – then, don’t try to jump to finding gratitude in your pained heart. It won’t happen. And then you might feel even worse.

The thing is, it’s too easy to compare yourself with the richest 1% you see on television. The glam, the ease of life, shiniest hair, healthy looks etc. But one third of people on earth don’t even have access to a toilet.  Literally. That’s more than 2 billion people. Reading this on your cell? You are one of the lucky people. So, put your life in realist perspective, and think again.

2. Practice contentment first.

With emotions, there’s always a process – no one goes from the very negative to the very positive overnight. To move in a positive direction, try feeling content first. Make peace with where you are. Even if you don’t like it. Just accept what you got. Only after contentment can you move to optimism and hopefulness. From there, it’ll be much easier to move to feeling grateful. Baby steps.

Practice contentment for a few weeks. That’ll open the door to more positive feelings, including gratitude.

3. Change the way you start your day.

You can do this only in the morning. Just for five minutes. In bed, after you wake up. Think of all the blessings in your life. Your child. Cat. Dog. Your partner. Your job (the ability to bring home money). Your clothes. Your car. Your smartphone. The heating. The toilet. Literally. The comforter under which you’re making this mental list.

Just for 5 minutes, that’s all. This will change the emotional state you start your day. And over time, you’ll be finding gratitude in you just naturally. Don’t snooze the alarm – spend those five minutes to fine-tune your emotions instead.

4. Help others.

If you can. There are many ways to do this. Donating money or goods is one way. Helping a cause online is another. If you have some time over a weekend, you can volunteer for a few hours. Seeing, hearing and talking with people who are disadvantaged will help you appreciate the small and big things you have.

Helping will take you a positive-feeling state, and from there it’s much easier to arrive at
gratitude. Helping others will help you.

5. Connect with the Universe.

Pray. Do yoga. Meditate. Do whatever it is that will make you feel connected to a source bigger than you. You’ll feel more powerful. And trusting. And just open to more possibilities. These positive emotional states will help you feel grateful even if the things you dream of aren’t yours yet.

It’s all about evoking good feelings. Any good feeling. Becoming more positive. The road to gratitude is paved with this. Give yourself time and understanding – this is a journey and no one gets there overnight. And no one stays there their whole life. Practice feeling good, starting with contentment, and it’ll be much easier to feel thankful on this Thanksgiving and all year long.

Thank you to Kasamba for these wonderful tips! X

Delicious Guilt Free Breakie Muffins

I've come across a delicious recipe by Anna Jane Kingston who lives, bakes and blogs in Donegal, I baked mine this evening ready for the morning and taste tested one by the fire just now.. These really are deeeeelish!

Blueberries are one of natures greatest offerings, they’re packed full of fibre and vitamin C; just one cup a day will provide you with all the fibre that you need!

So, why not include them in your treats and eats?  This recipe is super easy, only four simple steps, and you’re all set to enjoy a treat that’s actually good for you.

The addition of poppy seeds is a wondrous thing, not only do they give a lovely added texture and flavor, but they also provide some skin loving vitamin E too.

These cakes are just great for breakfast, they’re filling and easy to grab if you’re on the go. Perfect as a nice little lunchbox treat for the kids too.

Prep: 5 minutes   Bake: 20-25 minutes   Makes: 12 cakes

 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups/200g of ground almonds

  • 2 eggs + 2 egg whites

  • ¼ cup maple syrup/agave/honey

  • 1 heaped teaspoon of baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

  • 1 tablespoon of poppy seeds
  • 1 cup/125g punnet of blueberries

Method:

Preheat oven to 180°C and prepare a baking tray with 9-12 bun cases, if you want larger cakes – use only 9.

Place all the ingredients (except for the blueberries) into a bowl, and blend with a hand blender/blender/whisk until the mixture is smooth.

Then, simply fold in the blueberries.

Divide the mixture evenly between the cases, and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Then, sit back and enjoy your healthy treat.

Fresh from the oven!

Beautiful New Moon on Tuesday!

The new moon will be gracing us this Tuesday 13th October at 00.05 and it'll be a super time for you to set your intentions, wishes & hopes for the future.

One way to do this is by writing them on a piece of paper and then either throwing it in the fire or burning it (safely) in the garden under the moon light.

The New moon can bring with it times of uncertainty and sensitivity, therefore try your best to stay completely in the flow of things (I know it's a challenge sometimes!)  a mantra I like to recite is:

“I am available for anything that wants to happen in this moment, including that which is beyond imagining.” — P. Lowe

Below is a really interesting article from www.moonschool.org

After the intensity of eclipse season, plus retrogrades and many influential planetary aspects, we are soon to move through a New Moon in Libra.

Thankfully, this sign is gentle.

Libra is ruled by Venus, planet of beauty and balance, and whilst all New Moons are agents for brand new beginnings, the effects of this one are likely to be a little less abrupt and demanding than all that we have been experiencing of late.

Libra throws the focus onto the ‘other’ – that which is outside of ourselves – and how we relate to it. Relationships with other people are prominent, but so are the relationships we have with money, with our homes, our wider environment, our jobs and careers, for example, and how much we let all of these things tip our internal sense of balance.

Cosmic events of recent months have seen many of us experiencing really huge surges of change and the breaking apart of so much that once seemed to stand so fast. The kinds of big transformations that so often come with eclipses can be hugely unsettling, and create a very real sense of instability and bewilderment, and even anxiety and fear.

It’s important to remember that this is so, very normal – change wouldn’t bring us anything truly new unless the experience was unfamiliar!  And rarely – and I would even go as far as to say never – are these changes anything but positive.  You are creating your life (with huge amounts of support, especially at these big astrological turning points) so why would you manifest anything that isn’t truly for your own highest good?

So now we have a very timely opportunity, in the form of this Libra New Moon, to bring back the balance.

Whatever has been shifting for you recently now requires you to form a new relationship with it.

What has changed?

Is it your home life?  Clients at work?  Your family dynamic, or daily routine? Maybe it is a personal relationship, or the way in which you relate to a hobby, or spiritual practice?  Or have YOU become different?  Have you had to change yourself, in order to step up to new demands?

Try to think about all that has happened for you during the past couple of months. Think of the life you inhabited during the summer months, and of the life you are projecting ahead, as we move towards winter.  In order to really achieve your best, your most ideal vision, it’s important that you start off relating to it from a place of empowerment – as a creator, and not a victim of circumstance.  However much you have swayed, have been pushed into bowing and bending around recent changes, now is the time to regain your sense of inner power.  Become your own rock.

The reason this New Moon provides such an important gateway, as we move on from the eclipses, is that Libra seeks balance.  This means that whatever needs re-harmonizing, re-calibrating and re-adjusting in order to flow in your life, will be thrown into prominence during this Moon.  So wherever you are feeling resistance, unease, or difficulty in accepting or moving forward: these are the places to look first, to see where this relational upgrade needs to be taking place.

It is time to let go of fear-based emotions and realize that you are in control of how you feel, and the relationship that you create, moment by moment, with your external reality is yours to make as wonderful and productive and alive as you possibly can.

---------------------------

May this New Moon and the intentions you wish for come true if it is for your highest good & those involved.

Love and (moon) light! 🌙🌛🌠🌜🌌

Lean towards 'Grace'

Why is it that some people seem to live an enchanted life and others at the same time are struggling merely to survive?

The difference is that those that live an enchanted life are choosing a state of grace where they peacefully surrender to the natural flow of all things. Grace allows them to live in faith and express trust in whatever is in any given moment.

You can live this way as well as soon as you accept a life supported by the state of grace. Infusing yourself with grace, rather than ingesting an element based in avoidance or distractive behavior, will assist you in being present where you can fully understand that any challenge in your life, past or present, was created by your thoughts and attitude .

You will come to realize all you think and feel, consciously or not has or is momentarily manifesting as a projected illusion so that you may be aware of what you are giving your attention to. When you see clearly what you have been focusing on this gives you an opportunity to be choose differently. Your day to day experiences good or bad are just illusions, they are waking state dreams for you to choose to think and feel differently if those experiences are less than desirable. All of your illusions are nothing more than a mere stepping stone to realizing who you really are and what you truly intend to achieve.

When you choose to live in a state of grace you come to know that all, both those experiences perceived as good and those perceived as adverse were and are for your highest and best good. Choosing a state of Grace is shifting your attitude resulting in a change for the better in your manifested experiences. Choosing a state of Grace allows you to surrender to the flow and thusly your day-to-day existence is filled with magical miracles rather than struggle and adversity.

When you live in Grace you will feel and express only love, happiness and gratitude for all the wonderful things occurring in your life; which of course can only fuel creating more of the same.

How do you choose a state of Grace?

First it is important to know what Grace is.

Grace is a manifestation of favor or goodwill endowed upon you from a higher source, be it what you might call God, Spirit or your higher self. It matters not what you call it, it only matters that you receive and accept it.

When you accept grace you not only live in grace where your life is filled with elegance but you act in grace as well where you, your manner, and your deeds and motions are beautiful and you lovingly extend the favor and honor of grace to other people, places and things by your example.

Those that live in Grace experience an exalted life and those that struggle a stressful, strife filled live are referred to as having fallen from grace. You do not fall from grace as a result of punishment, you fall as a result of personal choice stemming from negative thoughts that generate unhealthy emotions and result in distasteful experiences and less than fortunate circumstances. When you fall from grace you have consciously or unconsciously chosen to accept a life of disfavor, one filled with far less than you really deserve.

The state of Grace comes naturally when you decide to raise your thoughts into a higher awareness by placing your attention on the good of all regardless of whether it momentarily appears to be good or not. When you accept Grace you are bestowed with the favor of goodwill, you let go of the unhealthy controlling behaviour of attempting to figure out every step along your path before you move an inch. You replace that behaviour with the faith and trust that your life is enchanted. Your life then becomes void of strife and struggle and miraculously appears to work for you instead of against you.

Choose to focus on the truth that you are in the favor of the highest source and you are continuously receiving grace. If and when something occurs that appears to be in direct opposition to what you were intending or dreaming about, be still and call upon grace to fill your heart, mind and spirit with the peaceful knowingness that you are in God’s favor and all that happens does so for a reason that may be far beyond your immediate comprehension. In this action you are letting go and letting God and you will be assured with multiple forms confirming all is well, allowing you to gracefully go with the flow of life of life!

Wheel of life

As I was recovering from a head cold over the last couple of days I came across a very cool website called 'Mind Tools' and discovered a really useful way of looking at life, when our life is busy, or all of ourenergy is focused on a special project, it's all too easy to find yourself off balance, not paying enough attention to important areas of your life. While you need to have drive and focus if you're going to get things done, taking this too far can lead to frustration and intense stress.

That's when it's time to take a "helicopter view" of your life, so that you can bring things back into balance.

This is where the Wheel of Life can help. Commonly used by professional life coaches, it helps you consider each area of your life in turn and assess what's off balance. As such, it helps you identify areas that need more attention.

Brainstorm Life Areas

Start by brainstorming the six to eight dimensions of your life that are important for you. Different approaches to this are:

  • The roles you play in life, for example: husband/wife, father/mother, manager, colleague, team member, sports player, community leader, or friend.
  • Areas of life that are important to you, for example: artistic expression, positive attitude, career, education, family, friends, financial freedom, physical challenge, pleasure, or public service.
  • Your own combination of these (or different) things, reflecting the things that are your priorities in life.

2. Write These Down on the Wheel

Write down these dimensions on the diagram, one on each spoke of the life wheel.

3. Assess Each Area

This approach assumes that you will be happy and fulfilled if you can find the right balance of attention for each of these dimensions. And different areas of your life will need different levels of attention at different times. So the next step is to assess the amount of attention you're currently devoting to each area.

Consider each dimension in turn, and on a scale of 0 (low) – to 10 (high), write down the amount of attention you're devoting to that area of your life. Mark each score on the appropriate spoke of your Life Wheel.

4. Join Up the Marks

Now join up the marks around the circle. Does your life wheel look and feel balanced?

5. Think About Your Ideal Level

Next it's time to consider your ideal level in each area of your life. A balanced life does not mean getting 5 in each life area: some areas need more attention and focus than others at any time. And inevitably you will need to make choices and compromises, as your time and energy are not in unlimited supply!

So the question is, what would the ideal level of attention be for you in each life area?

Plot the "ideal" scores around your life wheel too.

6. Take Action

Now you have a visual representation of your current life balance and your ideal life balance. What are the gaps? These are the areas of your life that need attention.

And remember that gaps can go both ways. There are almost certainly areas that are not getting as much attention as you'd like. However there may also be areas where you're putting in more effort than you'd ideally like. These areas are sapping energy and enthusiasm that may better be directed elsewhere.

Once you have identified the areas that need attention, it's time to plan the actions needed to work on regaining balance. Starting with the neglected areas, what things do you need to start doing to regain balance? In the areas that currently sap your energy and time, what can you stop doing or reprioritize or delegate to someone else? Make a commitment to these actions by writing them on a worksheet / vision board where you'll assess them everyday.

Tip:

You can use the Wheel of Life as preparation for goal setting or coaching. It helps identify the areas you want to work on and is a great way of visualizing your current and desired life. Once you are working on improving your life balance, it's also a useful tool for monitoring your life balance as it changes over time.

Wishing you balance in all areas of your life....Love Tara x

The Wheel of Life is powerful because it gives you a vivid visual representation of the way your life is currently, compared with the way you'd ideally like it to be. Harvest

Happy Autumnal Equinox everyone from all @ Soul Space in Carrick on Shannon x...🍁🍂🎆👌

Here are some ideas on how to Celebrate...

The autumnal equinox is the first day of Autumn. It is celebrated by many different cultures and plays a significant role in some beliefs. For most people, Autumn is a time that ushers in harvests, preserving food for the upcoming months, enjoyment of the colors of the changing leaves and beginning to prepare oneself both physically and psychologically for the upcoming colder months. For Keats, the famous poet, Autumn  was the "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness". A beautiful season, Autumn is filled with color, crisp days and provides an excuse to indulge in great foods. And it all begins with the first day which is TODAY! –here are some fun ways to celebrate the autumnal equinox.

Understand the meanings associated with the autumnal equinox.

This is the day when both the daytime and nighttime are of the same length, which has been long interpreted to mean that the world is in balance. Once the autumnal equinox passes, the nights begin to get longer and the temperatures will start to fall. Autumn is a time of dual purpose––it is time to gather the main harvests and it is time to determine what is needed for the upcoming winter. This is also about balance and as such, Autumn is considered the season of balance, a time during which you can restore balance to your own life.

Consider staying up during the night to welcome autumn.

Many people like to welcome in Autumn by remaining awake all night, to honor the equal length of day and night. Perhaps tie this in with a celebration with friends, by holding a small dinner party which features autumn flavors, such as squash, pears and apples. If you're not so keen on an all-night vigil, stay up until midnight instead 😉

Build or set up a monument to autumn.

If you want to share your joy at the arrival of Autumn consider building or placing a monument featuring autumnal items like pumpkins and straw in your yard. Ideas for what to do include a scarecrow or an animal you like, a pattern, or even spelling out words such as "Welcome to Autumn!". Your monument could also be an expression of your gratitude for the harvest from the Earth.

Be creative.

For those who love craft, it's a great time to start some autumn-inspired craft. There are all sorts of autumn crafts you might like to try. A few ideas include: Carve some shrunken apple heads, make leaf prints, craft a autumn wreath & frame autumn foliage for decorations. For those who love food craft, autumn is the ideal time to get into making preserves, pickles, bottles of drink, sauces and frozen goodies.

Make a list of your inner harvest.

An inner harvest refers to all the achievements and experiences that you have had or felt during the past few seasons. This is a way of restoring gratitude into your life, as you realise what you have done and how you have coped with challenges during the past months.

Take this opportunity to consolidate your energy and to fine-tune what you've achieved since spring.

Be grateful for what you have - really feel gratitude from your core every morning you wake up & your feet touch the ground.

Express your Autumn awe.

If you're a photographer, artist or writer, try to capture the essence of Autumn in photo, artwork or word form. Don't just focus on the changing leaves and bountiful harvests; consider the deeper meanings of the season as they resonate with you. Perhaps this is a time of necessary change for you and expressing this through your creativity is a great way to get started.

Contemplate.

This is a season when the buzzing activity of summer dies down and the excitement of life outdoors begins to relax into the more evenly paced, more predictable rhythm of autumn. Think about the ways you have neglected your inner growth and how this might be remedied.

Meditate or do Tai-Chi. Try to find your balance, in the same way that the world finds its balance on the autumnal equinox.

Seek to improve your health.

This is as good a time as any to restore healthful balance to your life. There are delicious foods from harvest to help you cleanse and keep to a healthy diet at this time of year, such as apples, grapes, peaches, plums, pears, watermelon, celery, butternut squash, aubergine, tomatoes, courgettes, bell peppers and more.

All of these healthy foods can be incorporated into a healthful lifestyle diet that keeps you fit and energetic. Where you can, support the growers of organic produce, which helps to sustain healthier soils and wildlife as part of the growing balance.

Weigh yourself. On the day of the autumn equinox, the sun enters the sign of Libra, the constellation of scales. Are you happy with the weight reflected back at you? If not, what do you wish to do about it?

If you're not already exercising regularly, make today the day you begin exercising again. Start with gentle exercise that allows you to ease into the rhythm, such as stretches, walking & yoga. Take up an exercise that you've long wanted to try, such as cycling, jogging or swimming. Most sports can be continued either outdoors or in indoor arenas during winter, so don't let the colder days ahead put you off sparking this change.

Focus on improving your breathing and posture. Good breathing and posture will help to restore energy to your body and can help you cope better with the respiratory illnesses the colder months bring.

Turn your home into a haven.

Autumn is the time of the year when people begin to turn from outdoor pursuits and start moving back indoors more often. (Of course, this shouldn't stop you from making the most of the glorious sunny autumn days outside!) This is a good time to restore balance in the home, to give it a spruce up before the upcoming autumn celebrations such as Halloween and Thanksgiving come and before winter arrives. Add some Autumnal decorations to bring on the festive christmas spirit.

Bring more light into your home.

As the days will start to shorten from the autumnal equinox, consider how you'll be able to bring more light into your home. Consider making some homemade candles and check out ways to hold back window dressings so that more light can stream inside. Good lighting will keep your spirits buoyed.

Workplace / Space

Don't neglect the energies in your workplace either. Now is a good time to clear out the clutter on the desk, shift around furniture and even trade places with another person. Remove things that have piled up in corners, replace worn signs and refresh the communal drink and food items.

Get into your garden.

After summer and after the harvests, your garden needs some tender loving care to ready it for winter. The autumnal equinox is a good day to jot down a plan for the following weeks of garden care ahead, to keep you organized and enthused about readying it for the colder months. It's also the ideal time to plant some crops that will produce during autumn or even into winter, such as cauliflower, lettuce, beetroot, radishes and shallots. Plan for when spring bulbs should be planted too, as many must be dug into the ground during autumn.

Honor your ancestors.

In Japan, it is traditional to visit the graves of ancestors around the time of the autumn equinox. This is a thoughtful tradition to build on for your own life, as a way of reconnecting with the past of your family and to remind yourself of your valuable place in the family.
